AOY Member Honored by Bucks County

AOY Secretary Marie Kane has been named the 2006 Bucks County Poet Laureate. Marie took top honors in the annual competition for Poet Laureate this year. The competition was juried by George Drew and Meg Kearney. George Drew is a New York poet who has been published in many regional and national journals, as well as his own books of poetry. Meg Kearney has taught poetry at several universities and was the Associate Director of the National Book Foundation, sponsor of the National Book Awards, for more than 10 years. She was also the 2005 Assistant Artistic Director of the Frost Poetry Festival in Franconia, New Hampshire. An presentation and reading will be held at Bucks County Community College on Sunday November 19, 2006 at 2:00 p,m. The presentation is open to the public. Marie is on the faculty of Central Bucks West High School, where she teaches American Literature and Creative Writing. Marie is also the director of the James A. Michener Art Museum "Celebration of Poets" annual program.
